Last Friday my little sister Kim got married at Sacred Heart Church in Royersford, Pa. Despite the rain it was such a beautiful day! The reception was held at Radnor Valley Country Club in Villanova, Pa. Everything was awesome! I was the matron of honor and had to give a speech...I've never done anything like this before. I was really nervous but it went over pretty well. I think a few people cried. Here are a few pictures from the BIG day and my speech is below too! Let me know what you think.
Matron of Honor Speech:
I just wanted to welcome everybody and thank you for being here to share in this special day. My name is Denise, and I am Kim’s older sister. When I first sat down to write my speech I thought about what it means to have a sister. Well…according to the dictionary- a sister is a close, female friend. I am sure most of you have a close female friend but not everybody has a sister. Fortunately, I have 2 sisters whom I adore and thank god for everyday.
Even though I am barely 1 year older than Kim she is still a little sister to me. For the past 28 years Kim and I have been inseparable and have shared so many great times together. We shared the same bedroom, the same friends, the same clothes and the list can go on and on. I can’t explain what it’s like to grow up with your best friend at your side. I would love to stand here and share all of our childhood memories but the truth is there are too many laughs and too many good times to just pick one or two to share with you.
I always felt the need to be a 2nd mother to Kim. I especially felt responsible for approving all of her boyfriends’, however, this was not an easy task. Thanks to my aunt Joan’s match making abilities Kim and Chris went out on their 1st blind date (well it wasn’t actually blind…Kim requested pictures before she would agree to a date him which I found quite interesting). I rushed home from work to curl her hair and make sure she had the perfect outfit. I was hoping to catch a glimpse of Chris aka Trooper but I wasn’t allowed to meet him because Kim thought I might embarrass her?? Anyway, the date went well and here we are two years later. Aunt Joan – the bridesmaids want to know if your match making services are for hire.
Well, Chris - It won’t be an easy road but I can finally stop worrying about who will take care of my baby sister. I now worry for you! Good luck. Chris has the perfect personality to deal with Kim. Over the past few years I have taught him how to annoy her by only saying one word or by chewing too loud. It really doesn’t take much.
Kim, I will miss you terribly when you move to New Jersey. I will miss our last minute lunches, pedicures, outlet runs, sushi Sunday’s and our walks to Main Street and back. It won’t be the same when I stop home and you and Maddie aren’t there to greet me.
Chris – welcome to the family. I now have to think about what it means to have a brother. This isn’t totally new to me since already have a brother –in-law John…Chris you have big shoes to fill. I turned to the dictionary once again for the definition of a brother and you will never believe what it says…A brother is someone you can always turn to when you need a loan.
Kim and Chris I am so happy for you and I wish you both the best. Tonight I wish my sister, my partner in crime and my new brother all the health, happiness, good fortune and love that life has to offer. Congratulations! I love you both.
